I guess many of you readers here know the term “Fusion Food”. Nowadays the restaurants that sell such cutting-edge fare have been growing in number. On this month’s My Favorite Cuisine, we’re pleased to present KOI, the Top-End trendy restaurant serving the cuisine of “Modern Japanese inspired with Californian accents”. With also branches in Los Angelis and New York, KOI Bangkok is located on Sukhumvit soi 20, adjacent to Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok, and with a spacious valet parking available.

It’s a Thursday’s night that we Masii Gourmet visited KOI. Our arrival just happened to bring us into the restaurant’s usual event held by Fashion TV namely a “Model’s Night”. What a co-incident it is after realizing that we also had a model going with us then too. I’m talking about My Favorite Cuisine’s special guest of this month, Piya Wimuktayon or “X”, whose sex-appealed look and gym jock body have already put him as one of the forefront Thailand’s catwalk models. Working in such glittering career, khun Piya has to concern more seriously than others about his healthy intakes and exercise that will help him stay in a perfect shape all the time. “I prefer food taste that’s neither so sharp nor tangy. Still I’d say I like those gourmet cuisines of France and Japan”, he said. So it sounds right that we took him to KOI, where the magnificent presentation of fusion treat is something all of us are expecting to discover.
Fine Modern Ambience that Exudes Nippon Character
KOI will be that state-of-the-art restaurant with an exotic décor that wows you. Housed in a fine innovative 2-story building, provided with a separate hip bar called “F.Lounge”, KOI can definitely satisfy those metro diners from their beginning to the end. KOI’s prim setting and the air somewhat of genteel reveals an undeniable fact that it’s been the place regularly cherished by A-list customers. As entering the first floor, you will find a narrow entrance lighted all over with candles that leads to one classy dining venue with a long sushi bar, and to the other dining section set in a darker, and sexier atmosphere. On the upper floor, 3 gorgeous private rooms are available for hosting any fabulous events, but with a reservation recommended. In the separate F.Lounge, which is often used for fashion event, opening until 1:00 am, you will meet a classy list of cold beverages, from crisp wines, trendy cocktails, fine whiskeys, to luscious soft drinks. There you can swing your hips along the fun music or just chill out over a stylish divan with some kool people. All these superb experiences you can get from KOI.

Fusion Japanese Dishes with Fine Flair
Combining a Californian charm with Japanese essential ingredients and cooking technique, KOI’s fusion cuisine becomes unique, and often adored by A-list of food-passionate expats around Bangkok. On the night of our visit, the restaurant presented its 5 key dishes to us, each of them happened to portray a tint of sophisticated creativity. Let us pick 2 examples of KOI’s signatures to talk here. First, it’s a cold appetizer called “Sunset Roll”. The dish has a sunny-looking presentation boasting healthy ingredients like fresh avocado and hygienically raw salmon. The other goes to a main dish named “Citrus Pepper Chicken with Ginger Glazed Vegetables & Essence of Miso Cream”. This fusion fare has an impeccable qualification in terms of East-Meet–West cuisine. Using an in-land chicken’s white meat to cook with hot pepper, and vegetables glazed with ginger-based mixture, the dish is also topped with the cream that contains the Japanese Miso essences. However, according to the food we tried, their tastes seem to set a rough parallel with their prices. So, considering going to KOI will be worth just for adding something elegant to your dining experiences.
